Les roses anciennes des Fieffes
Welcome in our garden
proverb: An empty brain, is the devil's shop

In the 1960s, David Austin discovered the ancient roses and was enchanted by their fragrance, opulence and deep and rich colours. From this passion, a new fashion was born which never stopped rising ever since.
When David first attempted hybridizations, not only did he try to obtain the shape and enchantment of former roses but also a wider range, strengh and resistance to diseases of present roses.
He mainly wanted to give modern roses the fragrance of the past.
The first born was Constance Spry, still on catalogue, with Dainty Maid and Belle Isis as parents.
Before him, two rose growers had explored the path:
- Buatois, in France, who created mossy rose Gabrielle Noyelle in 1933
- Kordes, in Germany, who traded Scharlachgut in 1952, then Parkzauber and Parkjewel in 1956
But these attemps were never crowned with success.
As for David Austin, he pursued his task and finally succeeded.
For a few years, following the success of English roses, creators have been marketing roses in the same spirit (Guillot with his range "Generosa" and Kordes with is "Romantik"
