Gallicas rose trees of the garden
With Layered branches, as of the XII E century, the "rose des apothicaires" was cultivated for the production of essential oil. This craft industry knew its apogee at the XVII E century, time to which Dutch started to cultivate these roses in great quantities and has to obtain new varieties.
However, at the XIX E century, there existed on the whole, only a few tens of varieties and hybrids natural.
The passion of Joséphine for the roses caused tremendous fad for the "roses de France" to the colours which go from purple garnet to the rosy white. In 15 years, the gallicas roses passed from 180to 1215 following the census of Desportes in sound "roseum gallicum" from 1828.
If at the end of the reign of Louis Philippe the number of gallicas exceeded 2000 subjects, it remains about it today only a little more than 200 of which a hundred in the trade.
The principal reason of the disaffection that gallicas ones during second half of the XIX E century knew is due to the fact that they do not go up. The immense variety of their colours and their perfumes did not save them.
